Some horses are good to have around.
Some become part of how you get through seasons of life.
BQH Twist Olena has been that kind for us.
He is a phenomenal horse and has been a true asset here in more ways than one. His résumé is not something that happened overnight. It has been carefully built over years, miles, jobs, and different riders trusting him to show up and do his part. He is the kind that fits a lot of people. From kids stepping into the show pen to seasoned riders who just want something honest and enjoyable, he meets you where you are and makes you feel like a better rider than you probably are.
This is the horse that carried me through my pregnancy. On days I needed to help my husband in the feed yard, and on days I just needed to clear my head in the arena or cover some country out on the trail, he never once made me question my decision to swing a leg over. Not every horse is one you would confidently lope around, sort cattle on, or go navigate trail obstacles on when you are eight months pregnant. He handled every bit of it like it was just another day at work.
Alf is jaw dropping to look at and built the way they are supposed to be built. Axe handle wide, deep hearted, and made to carry weight and hold up. He stands 14.2 hands and weighs right at 1200 pounds, which is about as perfect of a size as you can ask for. Big enough to cover ground and handle a job, handy enough that anyone can get along with him. He has the bone and foot to match, and he has always been meticulously cared for.
I bought Alf directly from his breeder, where he was raised right and shown early in Ranch Riding classes with a youth rider. He placed 4th at the LSU Ag Center Horse Show in Stock Horse Pleasure out of 22 girls 13 and under, and 11th in Ranch Riding out of girls 18 and under. He went on to qualify for Nationals. He has also been used as a turn back horse, which tells you a lot about his ability to read cattle and stay locked in without getting frazzled or overreactive.
In the arena, he is all business but still fun. He has the buttons everyone wants. Lead changes are there. Departures are clean. Transitions are smooth and honest. He is forgiving enough for an amateur or novice but still feels like a finished horse when you step up and ask him to do something correctly.
Outside the arena is where he has really proven himself day in and day out. He has had a full time job in a yearling cattle operation, pulling, doctoring, shipping, and doing the kind of real work that keeps horses honest. He makes sorting simple. He will side pass to a gate and let you work it without stepping into you or getting in a hurry. He stays quiet in pressure and never feels like he is looking for a reason to get excited.
He is the kind that makes long days shorter and makes you look forward to saddling up.
Alf has been a special one for us, and he has earned every good word written about him. He is the kind you buy when you're on the search for a once-in-a-lifetime horse. Alf is one in a million, and life changes are the absolute only reason he is for sale.
